How to Be Happy: 17 Tips for More Joy and Happiness

Joy and happiness have the highest possible vibration. When you’re happy, you’re manifesting. When you’re happy, you’re a magnet for whatever you desire. Pretty awesome, right? But how exactly do you cultivate more joy and happiness in your life? It’s all about your daily actions. Just like any skill, we can learn how to flex our joy muscle with practice. Here, I’m sharing 17 tips for helping you cultivate more joy and happiness in your everyday life. Happiness is a Decision

Life isn’t all sunshine and butterflies. It’s just not. Things happen because we are meant to hit lows so we can experience highs. That’s the way life rolls. However, at any given moment we can make the decision to feel happy. Happiness is a choice. It’s cultivated from within. The simple decision to be happy will ignite joy inside you.

Stop Future Tripping

When you get all caught up in worrying about what might or might not happen in the future, you diminish the quality of the present. You don’t allow yourself to fully enjoy the here and now—the only place where true happiness exists.

 Work Towards a Big Goal

Taking even just a tiny baby step in the direction of your dream will spark tremendous joy. Engaging in your passions fires you up like no other.

Forgive, Forgive, Forgive

Carrying around anger, hate, and resentment feels so heavy. It takes away from your capacity to experience joy and happiness. Let go of what is no longer serving you in order to make space for more love, joy, and miracles to flow into your life.

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

In the words of Richard Carlson, “don’t sweat the small stuff…and it’s all small stuff.” Whenever you find yourself getting upset or bothered by something, ask yourself is this dumb little thing worth giving up my joy for? The answer will always be hell no. 

End Toxic Relationships

If someone is not lifting you higher, they are bringing you down to their level. Cut the cord. Release them from your life, wish them well, and nurture new relationships that allow your magnificence to come forth.

Be Authentically You

Giving yourself the permission to be your most authentic self is the best gift you can ever give yourself. It is only when you allow your truth to shine that you can experience joy and happiness at its highest level.

Stay In Your Lane

Everyone’s path is different. Comparing your path to someone else’s journey is toxic for your soul. Honor your own gorgeous path. Know that you are exactly where you need to be right now. When you focus on doing you, you expand your capacity for happiness.

Savor Everything

When you really savor something (a meal, a sunset, a kiss, a hug), your enjoyment of it becomes explosive. Something so simple and mundane suddenly become absolutely magnificent. Take the time to savor the little things and watch your happiness level soar.

Remember You Are the Creator of Your Reality

It’s impossible not to feel next-level happiness when you remember how damn powerful you are. You have the capacity within you to manifest whatever you desire into your reality. If that doesn’t make you jump up and down with joy, I don’t know what will.

Count Your Blessings

Count your blessings over and over and over again. Practicing gratitude for what you already have and for what is on its way is magic. It elevates you to a higher vibration and you realize how much your life is already overflowing with juicy goodness.

Reframe Obstacles

Happiness is all about perspective. Obstacles will arise in your life, that is inevitable, but it’s how you see those obstacles and challenges that will either bring you more joy or rob you of it. Change your perspective to see obstacles not as road blocks on your happiness path but rather see them as opportunities for you to grow and expand and experience happiness like you’ve never experienced it before.

Practice Self-Love

How can you be truly happy if you don’t love yourself? Self-love is the foundation for everything. You can’t build a life you love without it. You can’t experience joy and happiness fully when you don’t love and nurture the energy that is your soul.

Connect to a Higher Power

Having a spiritual connection of your own understanding and cultivating a deep sense of faith means you can relax and just live fully while knowing with certainty that your life is unfolding with divine perfection. Faith equals happiness.

Stop the Negative Self-Talk

Every negative thought or limiting belief that pops into your head decreases your happiness. It disables you from seeing your greatness. It blocks you from receiving joy. Replace each negative thought or limiting belief with a more loving statement and it’ll open the door for love and joy to reenter your heart.

Do Things That Are Purely for Fun

When you do something for the sole purpose of having fun, you allow yourself to experience happiness at its fullest capacity. When you’re having fun, you’re completely absorbed in the moment. There’s no agenda. There’s nothing to check off your to do list. Fun is the purest form of happiness.

Make No Your New Mantra

Happiness begins with saying no to the things that don’t make you happy and saying yes to the things that do. Whatever is no longer serving you or doesn’t align with your goals, say no to it and say it proudly. Every no is a gift of joy you give yourself.
